She doesn't know what she was thinking--actually, no, that's a lie. She did know why she took this job, because she was tired of sleeping on benches in parks because she couldn't afford a hotel room. She had spent too much time slacking off and relaxing and not enough time looking for work (she also refused to take any money from her parents when she left, because, well, that would mess up her soul-searching crap, or whatever she was pitching).
She was desperate for the money, so she accepted the first job that came her way--catching two dozen fish for some random guy she met at a cafe. There were a few problems with that whole predicament--one, she has never fished a day in her life and thus she doesn't know how. Two, she doesn't want to touch the fish. Three, she doesn't really want to take them out of the water and watch them die as they flop around. And four, even if she wanted to fish, she would have to do it the hands-on way considering she had not enough money for a fishing rod (not even the ones that they have for kids, which probably wouldn't have worked anyways).
So she decided to check the area of Kuno Beach, where there were streams and rivers nearby. She heard that it was the best spot for fishing and while it was a little out of her way considering where she met her employer, she thought it would make her job easier.
Only a few people were hanging by the river, spread out over it's length. Families splashed in the water, couples had their romantic rendezvous, and some were even having a picnic near the waters. She found the most desolate area of the river and decided she would try fishing there.
She glanced around slowly and cautiously in order to make sure no one was around. Then she began undressing, throwing her sneakers off to the side, peeling off her top and shorts, leaving herself in her two piece bathing suit. She never liked wearing so little clothes in public, and though no one was around, she found her arms wrapping around herself as a cover.
Ciria folded her clothes neatly in a pile on the ground, placing them a ways away from the water. She then made her way towards the edge of the water, dipping her toe in first to test the temperature in the water. It felt good on her skin that was hot from the sun that was beating down relentlessly, so she dived straight in.
Once submerged, she opened her eyes, searching the water for fish that were big enough in size so they would please her customer. About ten of them were swimming close in her vicinity. She propelled herself forward, grabbing at the tail end of one of the silver colored fish. Not being fast enough, it slipped from her fingers, swimming faster down the river. The other fish scattered. She pushed herself onto the surface, taking in breaths of air and then going under again. She searched again, moving down the length of the river towards another school of fish. She reached forward again, but they scattered, moving faster.
She cursed involuntarily, taking in a gulp of water. She choked on the water, only for more of it to enter her mouth. She flailed her arms, rising to the surface and then spitting the water out. She pushed herself towards the edge of the river. She lied her head on the grass, panting heavily.
"Maybe it's time for a little nap," she said. "I'll finish it later."
